Parents of a different age…

My mother is much younger than my father. They have waited too long to plan their retirement and how one of them will take care of the other since their age difference will most likely create a situation of caregiver and care needer that will last for sometime. What do they do now that they are so late in their planning and may have very little or no notice of a difficult situation? I don’t think they have even talked about it to each other.
